			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to a survey of furniture manufacturers by High Point accounting and consulting firm Smith Leonard, orders for new residential furniture fell dramatically in April 2009. Furniture orders are down 27% in April 2009, versus April 2008.</p>
<p>About 93% of surveyed manufacturers said their orders are lower this year compared to last.</p>
<p>Additionally, shipments of completed orders was also down by 21% (both for the month of April and year to date). The number of furniture factory employees fell 3% from March to April, and by 21% when compared to a year earlier.</p>
